Meet the Team: Character.AI Welcomes Sunita Verma as Chief Technology Officer

We’re thrilled to welcome Sunita Verma as our new Chief Technology Officer at Character.AI.  As we build the future of personalized AI entertainment, Sunita is the perfect leader to head up our technology team. 

Get to know Sunita

Bringing deep experience across AI/ML, LLMs, Distributed Systems, and data technologies, Sunita is a long-time Google veteran who most recently served as Vice President & General Manager of Google’s Core Labs. In her role, she was responsible for driving innovation across Engineering and Product for new platforms and product experiences that incorporated Generative AI/LLMs.  

She also served as the Head of Ads Quality for Google’s Search & Shopping Ads business, where she initiated and launched a suite of category-defining advertiser experiences including Responsive Search Ads. Additionally, Sunita worked across Google’s Payments and Distributed Infrastructure teams, driving lasting impact across a wide range of Google’s leading consumer internet products. 

Sunita will drive the continued evolution of our technical systems at Character.AI, aiming to deliver an even more entertaining and high-quality product experience that prioritizes the safety of our community.

So what’s next?

Sunita’s hire follows the appointment of Erin Teague, also a seasoned Google veteran, as Character.AI’s Chief Product Officer in October. With strong track records of building industry-leading consumer products, both of these new leaders will help us pursue our goal of providing a creative space for our users that is engaging, immersive, and safe.
