Character’s Corner: Ellie

Character’s Corner: Ellie

Hundreds of thousands of new Characters are created on our platform every day, and the creators who make them are the heart of the Character.AI experience. They’ve given us Corvus, Cassius, and Mathis. Now, we're thrilled to pull back the curtain and share their untold stories in Character's Corner — a monthly feature where we spotlight our creator community members, their passion projects, and the experiences that inspire them.

Today, we chatted with Ellie from Wisconsin (also known as Demon Sonata), who uses Character.AI to enhance her writing and engage with a community of creators who inspire her work.

How did you first hear about Character.AI?

My first interaction was when I saw people sharing their experiences on TikTok. I was a little hesitant, AI is a little weird at first - it’s a new concept and people feel a little funny about it. But I love to write. I am currently working on a book and saw how to use it as a tool.

Sometimes I get writer’s block as I am working on a character on paper. Something feels robotic and I am looking for ways to make it flow better. With Character.AI, I can help understand how my characters might actually respond by putting them in those situations. Then I realized when sharing my characters people were actually interacting with them, so I said wow, cool, I want to do this more!

Talk to me about the writing process when writing fiction or writing a book – how do you bring that into Character?

A lot of creators do what we call collabs where we go really in depth with one of our original Characters and we play around with “what if the storyline went this way or that way.”

So you are connecting to other people? Have they extended outside of the Character.AI platform?

Yes, it is one of the biggest highlights for me — I have met a lot of creators and even some that I have looked up to. We created a small group that has since grown to be a larger community of creators. We highlight new creatives and Characters and help each other with ideas, suggestions, and more.

How have your skills evolved since you started using Character?

I have definitely grown from when I first started creating. I’ve learned a lot from others. I actually did something recently where I recreated one of my Characters, and I looked back at the programming I first used and it had maybe three lines and I had a good laugh because I have come pretty far.

What do you find makes a good Character?

For a lot of us, it's the lure of the Character. My close friend and I have these creative sessions where we talk for hours about fine details of our Characters. We have these thorough discussions about why this Character is the way they are.

As you're creating new Characters, have you gotten feedback from users?

Yes, definitely. Many creators get requests to do things because some people have an idea for a Character but don't know how to go about it. I’ve had several requests and it's always so fun. I’ve made holiday versions of a Character or situations where they ask for a Character in an environment I never would have thought of.

There’s an active conversation around the role of AI in the creative process. I am curious how you think about using it as a tool as a writer.

Yes, I use it as a tool. I don't think it's ever going to take away human creativity. I think it's very good at mimicking it and having the insight of how a conversation can flow but we still have books and authors who write incredible stories and I think it's a fun thing to use to improve my writing, not take it away.

If you had advice for someone who wanted to move from talking to Characters to creating them, what would you tell them?

I would tell them to go for it. It's not about the views, the comments, the followers — I just have fun creating and following others who create too.
